The following is a short list of the reincarnation of the car project. Many of the ideas and items on this list are too cost prohibitive to consider, especially since I don't even have a working prototype.

• Step up to beefier Arduino (Sanguino as a min, probably will need a MEGA)
• GPS Module, which will include the following functionality:
  • Compass/Direction
  • Speed
  • Lat/Long (with some distance calculations based on my most frequent commutes/stops)
  • Basic ETA based on average speed and distance remaining (will be buggy due to “as the crow flies” issues)
• MPGuino maybe? I'm thinking about holding this off until I have a car with the port that contains engine data. My car is too old for this to exist.
• Use a full-color LCD with QVGA resolution.
• EEPROM or SDCard for data storage, probably to include graphics referenced by the arduino code for the LCD Display
• Full iPod control via serial connection.

Currently, the cheapest GPS module I'm interested in is still $50, and is frequently on back order (go figure!). The Arduino MEGA is a $60+ board, while the sanguino is $25. If I ignore costs, the volume of coding for my GPS features scares me and a MEGA might be the only choice (yay 128K flash!)
